Last weekend was a lovely one for activities and adventures. An overcast Saturday led us to East Longmeadow for a day of crafts with Mimi and Papi. Sunday morning we brunched at our favorite Johnny D's and then headed outside to Davis Square for the Honk! parade.

The afternoon found us at the MFA to visit the new contemporary art wing. After the morning's adventures, Sadie takes comfort in one of the new contemporary chairs near the cafe while we consider our next step.

The museum offers loaner bags full of different types of activities for kids to use in exploring the museum. We borrowed a bag of shapes that encourage kids to find the various shapes in the art around them. Here, Sadie finds a triangle.

Sadie and a her new friend, Sophie, consider a ball in the middle of the gallery floor. Is it art? Is it a toy? Does it matter? No one seemed to stop them from a hands-on approach to exploring the piece.

What IS art, after all?
