One of my missions during our visit to SF was to get Marisa and Lorenzo out of the house every day for at least one adventure. We mostly succeeded. Our first outing was to the Asian Art Museum for their Japanese New Year mochi pounding ceremony.

On the BART with Ernie and Bert in tow (more bodies to keep track of on our journey).

The event was great - a ceremonial Japanese drumming group performed before and after they brought in the giant tubs of mochi which was then pounded by volunteers to the rhythm of the drums. Last it was hammered and folded and by the time it was stretched and rolled in spice it was nice and chewy and warm (we all got to taste some).

After Marisa collected a pillow to sit on, Sadie decided she, too, needed her own tuffet. I love how it's bigger than she is. Okay, and the red/white dots and black/white stripes combo.

After the ceremony there were arts and crafts for kids. Sadie painted a little rabbit and we attached it to an origami basket that Lisa made.

Last a running tour (literally) through some of the collections.
I'm a sucker for anything accordion-folded; throw in some amazing calligraphy and I'm sold. It inspires me to want to create giant screens with Sadie.
