The weekend in Sadie

While her obsession a few weeks ago was ducks, we have since moved on to monkeys (pronounced "matt"). All monkeys are "matt" and below we have "matt," "green matt" and "blue matt" joining us at the table for dinner, which they do every night.

Rather than demanding her "big duck" drawing, we have moved on to tracing objects instead. Here, Daddy demonstrates the drawing of two blue matts. Sadie also now understands the concept of counting and regularly points to pairs of things and says "one two, one two." We're working on three.

And matts can travel! Green matt came with us to the playground where he enjoyed the swing along with Sadie.

This weekend marked the fifth annual Honk! festival, a gathering of activist street bands from across the country (and world), also timed along with Harvard Square's Oktoberfest. We took in some of the craziness, including this man in a tellatubby banana suit rocking out on his reed.

Sadie digging it.

And there was also a man selling chicken hats. Sadie went so far as to try one on before saying "no, no no."

Back at home, Sadie found herself the best seat in the house for watching 30 Rock (who doesn't love Tina Fey?).

A trip to the bookstore scored us a lot of used Seuss and Sadie wanted to read The Cat in the Hat all by herself.

Still enjoying the alphabet cards.

Other new things: her words are getting better every day - she can say names and words that she was unable to even a week ago (finally, Lisa) and now can name most of her immediate relatives by photo, which is a favorite past time. She also loves watching herself in videos and repeats / imitates what she's doing in the video - far too funny.

Now she has the beginnings of a wooden train set collection (see photo above) which she likes to take apart (broke!) and put together again (in!). Kind of like puzzles, which are also still a winner.

Favorite color: staying strong at blue.
