Journey to Brooklyn

May means Stationery Show month and our annual trip for it down to NYC. A blissfully free Saturday was spent in Brooklyn. Jacob, Sadie and I started at the Googa Mooga, a new food and music festival in Prospect Park, along with friends. Here's Sadie dancing while we wait for tastes of something delicious.

A carved watermelon installation was pretty neat. The crowds were starting to get overwhelming, so after Sadie and I shared a dirt cake (chocolate brownie, caramel, chocolate nibs, chocolate pudding, fresh whipped cream and gummy worms - oh my) we headed out.

First we stopped at a nearby stationery store (Lion in the Sun) that was one of the first to carry Albertine Press cards. It was nice to have a chance to speak unhurriedly with the owner about life, business, and Brooklyn (Stationery Show is always madness, and all business). We soon found Uncle Hashie and then this store caught our eye.

This store is a front for a children's writing program in the back room (which you access by a secret door), and sales of superhero supplies fund nearly a quarter of the program's costs. Jacob found himself a few cans of antimatter, dark matter and intelligence, which now grace his office.

Around the corner we found Jack and Laura!

We migrated to a local secret garden for some more outside play before a bit more relaxing and snack Chez Berman.

There was also lots of block building.

Here's Sadie's road and sidewalk, complete with buildings and arrows.

Good morning, daddy!
