For me, our ten days away was a working trip. For Sadie, it was a chance to play with new toys (a Bubbie-begotten collection of large soft Sesame friends, plus Bubbie's iPad), hang out with the extended family (aunt and uncles and cousins-to-be), meet new friends, go to museums, on riverfront walks and have a jolly good time.

That Downward Dog comes in handy when fishing for just the right duplo.

iPad books with Grandpa while Daddy and Shmooie look on.

"Playing chess" has now progressed to setting up the board.

All of her friends, big and small, were carefully arranged in her pop-up house for a little party.

Sadie was kind enough to share her friends with baby Maya (who is totally rocking out on tummy time). A hair styling also took place.

Maya under the carefully arranged mountain of Sadie's soft friends.

She has discovered her toes (and the photo to prove it!).

With her daddy, Mike.

Sadie, Jacob and I were graciously taken through the offices of Martha Stewart by the style editor I've been working with on a piece for the fall issue of Weddings (don't worry, we'll let you know as soon as it comes out). Sadie scored a blackberry from one of the chefs in the test kitchen.

Our last day, Sadie was content enough to eat animal crackers, but not even promises of ice cream or cookies (!!!) would settle her down enough to meet another new friend. "Just Bubbie!!!" was the rallying cry of the two-year-old, through rivers of tears.

So Sam rode his motorcycle (yes, with a sidecar) up to Bubbie's, while we taxied there ourselves.

Evidence of Sadie's visit.
